Clementi (Singapore), September 21&22, 2018 --

MonsoonSIM Finals held in Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) over the weekend has once again demonstrated to our fellow competitors coming together from Southeast Asian countries that no two MonsoonSIM games are the same. Failure to adopt financial strategy change to rudimentary catch up with today’s Corporations worldwide markets can make the difference between winning and losing.

Teams from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman(UTAR) of Malaysia, by virtue of having applied a better overall strategy and demonstrated a more agile ability to adapt to a pool of KPIs randomly selected for the day, took the limelight amongst fellow competitors from Southeast Asian countries and Hong Kong by finishing 1st, 2nd, and 4th places.

MERMC, an annual competition co-organised by the School of Business of Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and Monsoon Academy this year, aims to encourage students to learn about Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) via Gamification and to incubate ERP talents for their future careers. Through the fun and interactive cloud-based MonsoonSIM, short for Monsoon Simulation Platform, students experience virtual companies management in real time, and learn how 12 different core business modules are integrated and interlinked:

* Production

* Material Requirement Planning

* Warehouse Logistics

* Budget and Forecast

* Inventory Procurement

* Asset and Capital Management

* Retail

* Wholesale

* Marketing

* Customer Service

* Human Resources

* Finance

150 students from a widespread 30 tertiary education teams across 5 ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong) were determined to win a total prize money of Ten Thousand Dollars plus trophies & medals in the competition.

Participants structured under a team of 5 competed for the highest scores from their group challenges to qualify for the Final round which included 25 percentage points to be allocated by a panel that comprised 3 judges.

Day 1 Morning Session @ 09:00

———————————

Teams participating in the qualifying round were selected through a ballot system. They were divided into 3 groups (A, B, and C) resulting in 10 teams per group.

Teams sprang into action as soon as the bells in two adjoining halls on the 4th floor of Building-C rang to kick off the start of the competition.

The teams worked towards the objective of running a successful virtual enterprise as they applied the business concepts they had learned and reacted quickly to situations based on practical constraints similar to real-life situations.

Unlike first-time MonsoonSIM players who are always exuberant and making noise, both halls became somewhat quiet as the teams strategized while a fierce simulation battle was already underway.

Competitors in actions....

After a highly intense morning completing over 100 virtual days, the top 3 teams from each group emerged as finalists. These 9 teams will progress to win the top prize in the Final round -- SGD4,000.00.

The finalists were:

1) Team Universe Universitas Ciputra

2) MICFS UTAR

3) Team Lucky Universitas International Semen

4) Kokobap UTAR

5)Team Random SUSS

6) Panda Monash University

7) UC Warriors Universitas Ciputra

8) Texas Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy

9) JAVAMAN UTAR

Lunch break @ 12:30

Final round @ 14:00

—————————

The battle for supremacy of the day began after a good buffet lunch. All 9 teams were hopeful for the top spot. A couple of wrong decisions or a crucial mistake then would mean GAME OVER.

DAY 2 Final round 2nd session @ 09:00

———————————-

The best team score remains up for grabs as the judges' panel of 25% score could change the outcome of the competition altogether.

In order to gain highest score from the panel of judges, the 9 teams needed to display professionalism through a round of PRESENTATIONS to the judges and endure grueling INTERVIEWS by the judges.

Judges scoring criteria look for the following attributes:

*Strategy and execution

*Ability to respond to judges questions

*Crisis handling adaptation

*Coordination & Execution

*Overall presentation

After judging @ 12:00

———————————-

Team Kokobap of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman(UTAR), followed by JAVAMAN of UTAR, and UC Warriors of Universitas Ciputra, emerged victorious in this intensifying and exciting simulation battle with the other 6 teams.

One thing worth pointing out is that the Champion, Team Kokobap went bankrupt in the Malaysian Country Final. But, given the opportunity to compete again this time, in the Regional Grand Final, they redeemed themselves from their past mistakes. Bravo!

The rest of the competitors all had put up a very high-spirited fight and deserved praise. The fact that they made it to SUSS for this Regional Grand Final, after over 3000 competitors in the region to begin with, proves that they were already winners.

All 30 teams were presented with certificates of participation. The top 3 teams were awarded with trophies & medals on top of cash money -- 4,000, 2,500, and 1,500 respectively. The rest of the finalists also walked away with gifts and a consolation prize of 200 dollars each.

The 2nd and final day concluded with a high-spirited photo session along with rejoices among the finalists especially the winners followed by another lively afternoon buffet.

Congratulations to the Winners!
